SUNDERLAND FOOTBALL CLUB
Being a Sunderland fan certainly has it's ups and downs, but in the 31 years I have followed 'the lads', unfortunately I have experienced more downs than ups. A season ticket holder in the West Stand, (come and say hello if you see me!) Danny and I attend as many games as my work schedule will allow. Times aren't so good at the moment, struggling badly in the premiership. There have been many memorable moments for me as a Sunderland fan, highlights are 'ski-jumping at Wigan' (anyone who was there will understand) this was particularly special for me as it was against my home-town club. Some great days out at Wembley 1985, 1992, 1998 (though the results weren't good). My time as stadium announcer (1990-1992). 2-1. Appearing as 'fans of the week' with my mates on Soccer AM. The other 2-1. On the down side of things losing to Charlton in the '98 play-off final was a blow, being relegated to the old second division for the first time in our history (with Mags at Roker Park) but the biggest downer for me was when we lost to Wimbledon on the last day of the '97-'98 season and were relegated from the premiership, that seemed to hit me harder than anything else. |
ENGLAND FOOTBALL CLUB
Though after my divorce the England scene got a little neglected, it now seems to be firmly back on track! Danny and I are now, once again fully paid up members of englandfans Supporters Club. This should enable us to obtain tickets to the England games, and with the World Cup Finals in Germany in 2006 it means we can get back in the routine of travelling away to watch England play. Work doesn't always allow it but we try and see as many games as we can. We are having a new St. George’s Cross Flag made in time for Germany so when that is finished I’ll post a photo on the website then you can look out for us! By far my best memory of following England was when I was fortunate enough to witness first hand the remarkable 5-1 win in Munich. I feel this will only be eclipsed by England winning the World Cup. Let’s hope my next trip to Germany is as memorable as the last one! |

LET MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE!
I suppose it's inevitable that I should love music, considering my job revolves around it. Ever wanted a certain track or CD that you hadn't heard for ages? Well, I stumbled across an ideal website a couple of years ago and use it regularly myself. CD NOW will probably be the place you will find whatever you are looking for. Reputed to be the largest CD store in the world, if they don't have it no-one will! I suppose when it comes to my personal choice in music I would have to say I'm a big fan of Van Morrison. The new Daniel Powter album is fantastic and one of the best I’ve heard for a long time, I play it a lot in my car. I have recently stumbled across an album called ‘In Between Dreams’ by Jack Johnson, the guys voice is superb and I’m very much into his music now. Again it’s another album that gets hammered in the car when I’m driving to gigs. A lesser known artist I was introduced to was Sunderland’s very own, Martin Stephenson formerly with ‘the Daintees’ he now tours doing gigs as a solo artist. Multi-talented he is great live and deserves more recognition. I also have to admit to going to see Wet Wet Wet in concert on more than one occasion. Others I've managed to see live include Bryan Adams, The Beautiful South, Lisa Stansfield and Phil Collins. Well, at heart I'm a big softy and like nothing better than sitting back, relaxing and listening to a good slushy soul album.
